So, I was typing up this last post and then I had to peel out for class but before I did I stumbled across this article that absolutely SMACKED me across the face. This article is about a wide range of things but it amazingly synthesizes my feelings on a number of real issues that I've only been able to hint at in my blog. These are things I've thought about as well as things I see everyday as a student at the U of M. Don't read me, read this.

Meditation on the end of logic
I am just coming out of my "Intro to Holistic Healing" class. Today's topic was spirituality and healing.
The question I've been wondering is how should we view our worldview and what we do. Is it really what the speakers today claimed? That spirituality is this abstract concept that can't really be explained?
Religion
The first speaker opened her set up into a bit of a forum and the general concensus of the class was: "I hate religion. It's stupid and it makes me feel bad and I don't like it at all."
"Spirituality" (as the new idea is defined)
On the other hand, almost everyone raised their hand when the question came up for "Are you spiritual?" This of course is doctrineless, and deep feeling-based. Along with this is the idea that no one is wrong and everything is right. Words can't explain so reasoning is pointless. Moral and cultural relativism along with acceptance is the key here.
Philosophy
And then on the other end of my mind is that I just walked out of a philosophy test. Philosophy is grounded in the idea of objective thought and reason. There is no room for emotion and especially none for "spiritually". It is a line of reasoning that leads to doctrine.
What then is our epistemology? Is it revelation, reason, or feeling?
For most people, it's a mix. Along with the new worship of science we find the lingering old wives' tales and suspicions that have been with us for centuries. Along with our unwavering reliance on our own ability to reason is a worship of sex.
